The second day of NYC Social Media Week continued today with impressive presenters who shared insights and analysis on the latest trends in social media. Here are the top three highlights of the day from the Affect team.
- Forbes 30 Under 30 honorees discussed the millennial workforce
In a decade, 3-out-of-4 workers will be millennials who were born and raised in the tech era. This will produce a workforce that is use to a fast-paced working environment, constant connectivity online and a modernist viewpoint on equality.
- Jesse Jackson delivered a compelling presentation on diversity in the tech industry
Currently, diversity in the tech industry is falling short not because of a talent deficit but an opportunity deficit. Silicon Valley holds the key to creating opportunities for more diversity in the technology industry by investing in campaigns to teach coding at a young age and advocate technological learning in schools.
- The Associated Press examined how social media is taking over news development
Social media has vastly expanded the supply of topics that we consider “news.” While it is important to keep readership and cater to their needs, it is important outlets remember to not just chase clicks. New organizations need to learn how to balance between publishing what they believe to be important and what resonates among the audience.
Tomorrow we will be posting highlights on the second half of the event. Come back for more!
